The Zambulugu community in Northern Ghana explains how their community has changed from forest with wildlife to a deforested areas mainly caused by fires. The implications on their daily lives include low soil fertility and therefore lower crop production, lack of products from the forest (e.g. medicinal plants), less food production. The community gathered and decided to start a afforestation plan with mango, teak and acacia. They received assistance from CARE and also developed internal regulations to sanction those who start fires.
